My Story

I was a sensitive kid with an overactive imagination. I’ve always had a story in my head and a poem in my heart. Stories helped me understand myself and cultivate my energy into something wonderful.

Some kids played sports. I played on the moon with ghosts and ninjas. As early as 1st grade, my friends and I told each other tales as we walked in the fields during lunch and recess. One person narrated while the rest of us acted out the characters. When I got home, I wrote our wacky adventures into one of my journals to remember that anything was possible.

My love of stories flourished in middle school where I became an avid reader. Authors were my heroes. They kept me safe in fantastic and exciting worlds that I loved being part of. I wanted to share that feeling with others. I wanted to be that hero for someone else.

Both creatively and academically, people enjoyed reading what I wrote throughout high-school and college. I was encouraged to develop my voice and I have since nurtured a deep connection with the written word. As I look back on my journey, I realize that my dream came true. I tell my stories and I help others find their voices, too.

I’ve brought actors to tears with a heartfelt speech commemorating their achievements. I’ve been kissed on the cheek for the sincerity of my poetry describing inner struggle. I’ve been thanked for helping other writers see their own work in ways they never thought of before. Even my two-year-old niece loves bringing me books to read for story time.

I write because I feel. Authors are my heroes because they cultivate creativity, curiosity, and empathy. Being able to share these incredible gifts with others is my greatest joy.
